...and some "studies".  During the earlier years the artist sometimes made studies (like these pictured below) prior to beginning work on the final piece.  This was similar to an artist making sketches prior to beginning a painting.  These studies are not meant to be seen as "finished work", nor were they meant to be sold.  Some of them have disappeared and others have been destroyed - not necessarily intentionally.
