Li Garden is located in Kaiping City, China
and was constructed by Mr. Xie Weili between 1926 and 1936. Xie Weili
was born in the United States to parents who had emigrated from China.
After making a fortune in the pharmaceuticals trade, his father ordered him
to return to China and construct a garden. For the next 10 years he
was the obedient son.
Xie wanted to create something unique and
original. The almost 5 acre garden is divided into 3 sections, which
includes a villa section, a grand garden, and a small garden. The
three areas are divided by canals and walls, connected with each other by
bridge, pavilion, archway, and corridor. In addition, there are 6
magnificent villas to accommodate the Weili clan. The wide and deep canals
provide the perfect transition to the architectural features of the
garden.
The Li Garden is famous for its perfectly
mixed complex of the western and the oriental ... the charm of a traditional
Chinese garden in complete harmony with the Western architecture of the
villas. These characteristics make this elegant garden a pearl
among the many Chinese gardens.
