ARC DE TRIOMF  .  Barcelona, Spain  . 7" x 9" x 3.75" tall

The beautiful Arc de Triomf is an arch in Barcelona, Spain, built in the manner of  a grand triumphal arch.  It was built  by Josep Vilasecca i Casanovas at the end of a wide promenade and served as the main entrance gate for the 1888 world's Fair .  The exposition took place in Barcelona's nearby Parc de la Ciutadella.

This arch stands out from other well-known arches because of its colorful reddish-orange brickwork in the Mudejar style, a style with origins in Moorish architecture.  It measures 100 feet tall and is decorated on all sides with carvings and ceramic tiles.  The front frieze shows the city of Barcelona welcoming visitors.  The other side shows a prize-giving ceremony.  The right frieze symbolizes industry, trade and agriculture while the left frieze symbolizes trade and the arts.

Today the promenade is a lively "meeting place" in the city, popular with young and old, and one of the main centers   for all those interested in "selfies".
