CANAL HOUSES . Amsterdam, Netherlands . 5" x 4.5" x 5" tall
Numerous 17th century houses line the canals of Amsterdam. They were built during the "Golden Age" as city residences for wealthy merchants. These homes are characterised by narrow, relative tall facades, often crowned by richly ornamented gable tops. The top floors were designed to serve as storage space for commodities. Each will have a unique "hoist beam" outside the central window on the top floor. |
